Who we are

Wildseed is a Chicago-area landscaping company started by Malcolm Mossman, an urban planner and environmental consultant who worked with communities throughout the Midwest to plan and implement sustainable infrastructure projects. He saw how native gardens and green infrastructure could effectively and affordably mitigate flooding, improve biodiversity, protect local air quality and beautify spaces for both municipalities and homeowners. The only problem was that people needed help funding, installing, and maintaining projects - and existing landscaping companies did not offer these services for native gardens and green infrastructure.

Wildseed believes urban landscapes can be a healing force for our planet, communities, and souls when we prioritize ecological health alongside aesthetics. We provide Chicago area residents, businesses and municipalities with a suite of products and services that support the development of natural and community gardens. This includes native garden installation and maintenance, garden consultation, and technical assistance for municipalities seeking to develop green infrastructure.

If you’re looking to build your own piece of our natural urban ecosystem, Wildseed is here to help.

Wildseed wants to buck the status quo.

The traditional landscaping industry has, mostly unintentionally, played a role in reducing biodiversity and weakening communities’ resilience to climate change impacts. This happens due to:

1) the heavy reliance on non-native plants that crowd out pollinator-friendly native species;

2) the overuse of pesticides and herbicides that harms beneficial insects and disrupts soil health, and;

3) a focus on expansive, manicured lawns with shallow root systems that require excessive watering and retain little stormwater in comparison to native plants.

Wildseed is a landscaping company for the 21st century, one focused on stewardship, sustainability, and partnership.
